  • Overview

    TD Williamson, a leader in the pipeline service and support industry, is currently seeking an entry level technician (Trainee) to join the Hot Tapping and Plugging division of its field-based service center.  In this role, the trainee will learn to operate Tapping and Plugging equipment within defined technical procedures during service work assignments to ensure safe and proper use of equipment and satisfactory completion of the job.


    • While behaving as a steward for TD Williamson, assist certified technicians in the safe handling, assembly, operation and disassembly of TDW HT&P equipment during field operations.  Once completely trained and competent, trainee will work independently, often as the only TD Williamson representative on a job site.
    • Under the direction of master technicians, direct a field-based crew of up to 50 people in installation of machinery and equipment
    • Learn and understand mechanics of highly specialized machinery and be able to trouble shoot as needed
    • Keep up-to-date on all equipment maintenance and operational procedures to ensure safe, proper maintenance and use of equipment and satisfactory completion of the job.
    • Learn, comply with and/or apply TDW and customer HSE standards and procedures, and stops any work utilizing TDW equipment when unsafe conditions exist that threaten bodily injury, equipment, or property damage.
    • Collaborate with certified technicians to reconcile equipment shipment from the job-site as it relates to equipment loaded.
    • Learn the intricacies of TDW HT&P equipment functions, for the purpose of safe handling, repair and service to enable efficient field performance for HT&P field applications.
    • Follow standard troubleshooting procedures to alleviate problems encountered in the field, ensuring safe and efficient field performance from equipment.
    • Develop ability to respond to customer requirements and address problem solving aspects of all TDW field work.
    • Work in the workshop in equipment preparation/maintenance and stock management as required by the management.
    • Perform other tasks as may be required from time to time by upper management.


    Minimum qualifications

    • Mechanical aptitude
    • Ability to identify and utilize variety of hand tools
    • Basic math skills with strong knowledge of adding/subtracting fractions and decimals.
    • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (60-100%), mostly domestically
    • Good communication skills in English; any other languages are an asset.


    Preferred qualifications

    • Formal training in any mechanical function (diesel mechanics, etc.)
    • Experience in or knowledge of oil and gas business, pipeline construction and maintenance, refineries, plants, etc.
