Leads and manages the activities of the Hot Tapping & Plugging (HT&P) Solutions Engineering group in accordance with corporate policies, strategic goals and objectives in order to achieve global expansion of existing, and development of new business to grow TDW’s revenue, profit and share of the HT&P market. Collaborates closely with Services, Operations, Marketing, and other TDW Engineering groups to leverage technologies, capabilities, and value propositions across all related markets.


Strategic development & Innovation (20%)

  • Participates in the development of the company’s vision and strategy together with the Regions, Operations, Services, Marketing, other Engineering groups, and support functions,
  • Drives product and capability innovation through the HT&P Solutions Engineering organization to build new and refine existing technologies delivering unique customer value and sustainable business for TDW,
  • Is responsible for the creation and implementation of all HT&P Solutions Engineering roadmaps, strategies and organization designs that are consistent with short- and long-term objectives of TDW,
  • Identifies, pursues, and secures accretive growth opportunities by supporting business development, merger and acquisition, joint venture and partnership activities in a systematic way consistent with corporate protocols and business plan objectives and timelines;

Strategy execution & New Product Development (30%)

  • Co-Owner of NextGate (Phase-Gate) for HT&P,
  • Manages all technical elements across the breadth of the HT&P product and service portfolio from concept through obsolescence, ensuring configuration control of each offering;
  • Designs and produces commercialization strategies in collaboration with Services, Operations, Regional Management, and Marketing personnel for new products and capabilities that are executed by Services to ensure the fastest speed to market and return to TDW,
  • Directs and oversees R&D and capital budgets for large scale development projects closely tracking and reporting financial returns and market performance,
  • Ensures technologies are validated to effectively control risk, and maximize value for TDW and its customers; Ensures prototype production and relevant manufacturing engineering activity aligns with internal and external customer expectation;
  • Ensures HT&P Centers of Excellence are fully committed to the highest standards of technical excellence by creating technical standards, codes, and industry best practices in collaboration with Services. Promotes a culture of quality and safety,

Operational Excellence & Collaboration (35%)

  • Owner of TDW HT&P technical specifications;
  • Accountable for all engineering activity within TDW HT&P;
  • Works closely with Marketing, Regional Management, Operations, and Services to establish marketing programs to effectively position and promote TDW within the market space;
  • Exhibits broad market thought leadership with customers, academia, and industry associations through active speaking engagements at conferences and by publishing papers in trade journals;
  • Ensures the overall performance of general product life-cycle (including upgrades of technologies to meet new codes and standards) covering planning, execution, prioritization and implementation of improvement projects for HT&P product lines in collaboration with the Services Organization,
  • Works closely with Regional management teams to ensure TDW brings the highest valued solution set of product and service capabilities to market,
  • Ensures cost optimization of designs in order to lower the engineering, production, and operational cost of new HT&P products and as part of ‘life-cycle management’ of existing technologies collaboratively with Services/Operations; Maintains final approval of cost optimization and design quality;
  • Ensures high level of interdependence within TDW to maximize utilization of TDW capabilities and capacity,
  • Coordinates Intellectual Property issues with Legal and Marketing departments to ensure proper protection; Responsible for the HT&P patent strategy and execution,
  • Supports competitive pricing and profitability strategy guidelines in collaboration with Marketing, Operations, and Services to be used by Regions to position product and service lines for success in the marketplace. Works closely with Marketing and Regions to secure pricing and profitability performance feedback – while owning Value Engineering activity - to support winning greater business and market share,
  • Supports service delivery organizations through training, support of newly commercialized technologies, and continuous improvement initiatives,
  • Ensures effective technical and sales training of TDW personnel for HT&P, and effective technical training for customers;
  • Supports global engineering standardization activities related to tools, processes, systems, and metrics;

Team management (15%)

  • Selects, evaluates, motivates and develops employees to ensure a qualified workforce necessary to meet company objectives while complying with EEO and Affirmative Action or foreign employment guidelines as applicable,
  • Sets personal objectives, provides fair and constructive feedback, assesses accurately employee performance, training needs, areas for improvement and possibility of future growth within the organization, and ensures training & development needs are addressed,
  • Leads the continuous improvement process in the team;


  • Advanced Engineering degree or MBA preferred with Engineering Background
  • Ten years of diversified Pipeline industry (HPI, Transmission, Gas Distribution, Pipeline Integrity) experience with proven business and operations management experience and accountability, past experience leading a service business preferred
  • Strong ability to develop high level relationships and rapport with customers, and business partners, and represent TDW at the executive level on industry committees,
  • Strong business problem solving and creative business development skills
  • Possess strong ability to exercise sound judgment in making business decisions
  • Previously demonstrated ability to organize, lead, challenge, inspire, and develop people
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communications skills. Should be proficient in the use of Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel at an Intermediate level.
  • Requires up-to 25% travel, internationally
